Recently there’ve been so many talks about Knowledge Management (KM), therefore no manager or director can avow himself ignorant in that issue.

The question lies in what exactly people imply when talking about “Knowledge Management”. On the other hand there exists an opinion that one way or another all companies try to manage and control their knowledge, but call that process with different names. And it would be of no crucial importance if actions and solutions designed as Knowledge Management or called Knowledge Management have been successfully implemented and worked for the good of companies and community.

Here are some general terms and notions on Knowledge Management.

Knowledge — necessary information, which is used by people in accordance with certain rules and procedures with consideration for attitude of people to this information (appreciation, approval, ignoration, acceptance, denial, etc.).

Explicit Knowledge — knowledge, containing in letters, presentations, reports and others, which can be documented, represented as documents; about 20% of knowledge in a community /company can be formalized.

Tacit Knowledge — knowledge, which are difficult or impossible to formalize; intuitive knowledge, sensations, impressions, opinions; about 80% of all the knowledge of a community; these knowledge stay with the members of the community/employers of a company in case they leave the community or company .

Knowledge Management — a procedure of creating conditions for identification, storing and successful implementation of knowledge and information in the community. Strategy, aimed at timely providing the necessary knowledge to the members of the community, who need them in order to improve community efficiency.

Knowledge Tools — totality of technological concepts for identification, storing, transmitting, structuring, computing, transforming, distributing and other operations with knowledge and information if this is necessary for effective community performance; totality of executive methods and solutions, enabling to create conditions for effective knowledge and information sharing.

Knowledge Sharing — process of constant circulation of knowledge within a community, realized by different ways, according certain rules and procedures with the use of technology concepts and/or executive methods.
